Optimal Experience

beading and publishing, ongoing

Optimal Experience is an ongoing project positioned at the intersection between handcrafting and publishing.

The title refers to psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi’s theory of optimal experience, determined by a state of consciousness called flow, during which people experience a deep enjoyment, creativity and a total involvment with life.

As a response to a hard time in life, the beading practice became a coping mechanism, and a way to find peace.

The beaded rings, sold on request, are handwoven in Japanese glass beads. Their packaging involves a small printed booklet which narrates the intimate genesis of this work.

A liberating feeling of making beyond the expectation to develop a grand concept about a product.
